Riverview Senior Wins Top Scholarship

Congratulations to Riverview High School Student Senior Cara Tomlinson for winning the top scholarship at the Lyon College Honors Day Competition.  On January 28, many high School students from the states attended the Lyon College Honors Day Competition event for their chance to win one of the four scholarships available.  Cara came home with the top scholarship award the “Anderson Scholarship” of $90,728.  The Anderson Scholarship is one of the highest academic recognitions made by Lyon College to entering freshman students. This award is based on outstanding academic achievement and the promise of continued academic excellence.  The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Mr. Wooten Anderson.  To be eligible for the four scholarships, students must have a minimum score of 23 on their ACT or 3.25 GPA.  Cara won the scholarship based on her ACT score, high school grades, a personal interview, and essay writing.  Cara was interviewed at Lyon College Professor Kenton Adler who asked her questions about her goals in life, why she wants to attend Lyon College, and about the leadership skills she has used in her community and school.  Cara also had to write an essay from three of the prompts given to her.  She chose the prompt “Write about the person of meaning to you” so she wrote about her dad.  Cara plans to pursue a degree in “Law”.
