Batesville student one of two to receive Martz scholarship

Tyler Devers of Batesville and Andrew Weaver of Paragould are the recipients of the Gene and Irene Martz Scholarships for the College of Business and the College of Engineering at Arkansas State University.

Devers received the Martz award for business of $1,000 per year as a graduate of an Arkansas high school and resident of the state. His scholarship is renewable through graduation based on full-time enrollment and maintaining a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Weaver’s engineering scholarship follows identical criteria. Devers is a member of the Dean’s List, while Weaver is on the Chancellor’s List.

Committees established in both the College of Business and College of Engineering make selection of scholarship recipients.

Irene Martz retired in July 2005 after serving 48 years as the assistant to the vice president for academic affairs before the title became known as vice chancellor. During her time at ASU, she was responsible for various duties, including coordination of the production of the undergraduate bulletin, helping to register students for classes, wrote grant proposals and developed the commencement program.
