Bad Boy Mowers is sponsoring the #31 Chevrolet of James Buescher from Turner Motorsports in the October 22nd Talladega Camping World Truck Series Race! The race will be nationally televised on the incredibly popular Speed channel. James is an up-and-coming super star and is currently leading the truck series points standings. Not only is he in the middle of a hot season, but he's a strong favorite to win the Talladega Event.

Batesville Team Wins World Archery Tournament

For the third year in a row, Eagle Mountain Magnet School’s archery team found themselves in Orlando competing for a world title. On October 8th, for the second time in three years, they won. Batesville qualified for a trip to Disney World by placing first in the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament and second in the National Archery tournament in the Schools program national tournament in Kentucky. Their score of 3291 set the new elementary school world record, beating the previous world record of 3287.

They never would have made it without Coach Susan Parker. Parker has been a PE instructor in the Batesville schools for more than 20 years and has coached the team since its formation in 2009. “This is an incredible opportunity for our student and our state.

If you want your float to be judged you MUST get a number prior to Friday, December 2, 2011 at noon or the entry will not be judged. You can receive your judging number by e-mailing this information to angela.connell@mybatesville.org , by calling 870-793-2378 or stop by the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce located at 409 Vine Street, Batesville. Line up at Town Plaza Shopping Center (On Main Street across from Liberty Bank) a...t 5:00pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 and the parade will begin at 6:00pm. Candy is NOT allowed to be thrown from float. Must have walkers hand out candy. First, Second & Third Place parade float winners will be announced Monday, December 5, 2011. Categories to be judged are Commercial & Non-Profit/Civic Organization. All winners will be notified. All judges decisions will be fair, impartial and final. The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce assumes no responsibility for injury before, during, or after the parade.

Lyon College Homecoming

Homecoming 2011 at Lyon College will feature the groundbreaking for a new campus center in addition to the traditional classreunions, alumni awards and special celebrations. Homecoming will be Oct. 21-23.

The groundbreaking for the new campus center will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the site previously occupied by Edwards Commons, which was destroyed by fire on Oct. 26, 2010. The two-story, 43,427-square-foot building will house the dining hall and kitchen, student life offices, meeting spaces, game room, the Scot Shop, and a bistro.

Four alumni and a longtime friend of the college will be honored this year. Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented to Dr. Robert Cashner, ’65, and Dr. Timothy Stokes, ’92. Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented to alumni who have brought honor to the college through their distinguished careers. Dr. Cashner is a retired professor, vice chancellor and dean at the University of New Orleans. Dr.

5th Annual Fall Golf Classic was a success!

 

October 5, 2011 - Nineteen teams entered the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual Fall Golf Classic tournament with Presenting Sponsor Citizens Bank held September 30th at The Course at Eagle Mountain.

The finishers were divided into four flights and the winners of the championship flight were first place, Alan Cockrill, Hayden Cockrill, Scott Wood, and Julie Gregg. Second place in that flight was captured by Citizens Bank, and third place in that flight was Wal-Mart.

The first flight winner was Randy Reichardt, Greg Moser, Chip Rayford, and Anthony Milum, Randy Reichardt Insurance Agency. Second place winner was Modern Woodmen-Richard Hawkins, and third place was a three way tie between Lyon College, Terminix, and Citizens Bank.
