BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- Lyon College will hold a topping-out ceremony for its new campus center at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the construction site on College Avenue in Batesville.

A topping-out ceremony commemorates the placement of the last beam at the top of a building. Lyon President Don Weatherman will speak briefly and the top beam will be signed before it is lifted into place. The beam also will be available for signing Wednesday morning. It will be located outside the fence area on the north side of the site.

East-Harding Construction Co. of Little Rock is the contractor for the $9.6 million project. The 43,427-square-foot campus center includes a 352-seat dining hall, kitchen, deck, The Scot Shop, gaming center, health and wellness facilities, counseling offices, career development center, meeting spaces, student mailboxes and a bistro.

The new building will replace the student center and di  ning hall that was destroyed by fire in October 2010.

If construction stays on schedule, the building will be completed by the fall of 2012.
