Lyon organizes parents association

Lyon College has established a new organization – P.A.L.S. (Parents Association for Lyon Students) – to better connect parents of current students to the college.

The organization’s mission is to provide a means of communication between parents of Lyon students and the administration, and to promote continuing dialogue between parents, faculty, administration, and students.

P.A.L.S. serves three vital functions, according to David Heringer, vice president for administration: “First, to provide counsel and feedback to the College based on conversations you have with, and insights from, your students. Second, P.A.L.S. members will from time to time help attract potential students to the College by writing letters and recommending prospective students to Lyon’s Enrollment Services Office. Third, P.A.L.S will help with Family Weekend each year, providing insight into effective programming to help parents, as well as entertainment ideas that appeal to the whole family.”

P.A.L.S. cards were given to parents during Welcome Weekend when new students moved into residence halls on campus. The cards list phone nmbers of frequently needed college offices like the Registrar and the Business Office.

The card also entitles P.A.L.S. members to a 10 percent discount on all Scot Shop merchandise (except textbooks).

P.A.L.S. membership forms will be available at Homecoming on Oct. 21-23.
