Bookout: Redistricting work likely on Monday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas Senate President Paul Bookout says the Legislature will work Monday on redrawing the state's congressional boundaries.

The House and Senate recessed Friday. Bookout said legislative leaders plan to call lawmakers back to the Capitol on Monday afternoon solely to complete work on redistricting. A redistricting proposal that has passed the House but faces heavy Republican opposition has met resistance in the state Senate.

Bookout told reporters that the proclamation would call lawmakers back to the Capitol to work on redistricting.

The House-passed proposal would move the city of Fayetteville from the 3rd Congressional District to the 4th, the only Democratic congressional district in the state. Bookout said he didn't know how long it would take to complete redistricting work.
