Batesville football players remembered at game

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Batesville High School football team took the field Friday night at Pioneer Stadium, but it was without two special players.
Sophomores Camdon “Cam” Osborne and Will Olson died in a car crash Monday night. Four other sophomores were injured in the crash, two of them are also on the football team. At the game, the team and the community honored the young men both on and off the field.

The Pioneers played against Greene County Tech Friday night, absent of one of their offensive lineman and sophomore quarterback.

“Both families wanted us to play. They love these other kids and they know how much their sons would have wanted to be out here,” said King.

To show their support, people in the stands wore orange ribbons, and both teams wore Osborne and Olson’s jersey numbers, 15 and 64, on the back of their helmets.

“We got some orange color and put their numbers on it, and they have their numbers on the helmets. They are excited to get to do that,” said Green County Tech coach, Don Simmons,

A moment of silence was held before the game, and pictures of the two sophomores were displayed on the scoreboard. Green County Tech players held up a sign that read “Be strong and courageous. GCT is praying for you.”

“The outpouring of love for these families has been awesome and it makes me proud to live in Batesville,” said King.

Some of the students injured in the crash also came to show their support.
