Old Independence Regional Museum hosts "A Night at the Museum"

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Inspired by the Night at the Museum films, Old Independence Regional Museum will host A Night at the Museum on Friday, October 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.  

This family-friendly event will feature a fun evening of character interactions, crafts and refreshments.   Admission for the evening is $5 per person.  Bring your camera because photos are encouraged, no flash please.  Visitors are invited to come as they are or dress in their favorite costume.

In the museum’s Civil War exhibit, visitors will meet Emily Weaver, Nannie Wilson and Emma Burr, three teenaged girls living in Batesville during the Civil War.  These ladies didn’t let the war get them down.  They enjoyed the new social opportunities that the war brought to Batesville by hosting balls and parties for the soldiers.   Join the ladies, as they discuss the latest happenings.

BACC to hold Myers-Davis Life Coaching ribbon cutting

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for Myers-Davis Life Coaching on Thursday, Oct. 1

The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at 1141 E. Main St. in Batesville. All community supporters, Chamber members, ambassadors, board members, staff, and the public are invited to attend.

Myers-Davis Life Coaching will also hold an open house for the public on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Emerson Art School located at 619 S. Broad St. in Batesville on Thursday, September 17. 

Four named Arkansas Teacher of the Year state finalists

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Four outstanding teachers were named 2016 Arkansas Teacher of the Year state finalists at a recognition event today with Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Johnny Key. 

“Selecting just four teachers from an exceptional group of talented educators was a difficult process,” Key said. “The four state finalists chosen, however, have demonstrated leadership, knowledge and the ability to inspire students in the classroom. I congratulate them, as well as their administrators and fellow educators.”

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Oscar’s Barbecue & Catering on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Bad Boy, Inc.

Museum receives aid from Knights Templar Masons

Museum receives aid from Knights Templar Masons

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Knight Templar Masons recently provided aid to Old Independence Regional Museum for its upcoming fundraiser. 

Gerald Nash, Master, Mt. Zion Masonic Lodge #10 and Ted Stepanek, Commander, St. Elmo Commander #13 presented the museum with $1500.00 to support the USO style dance taking place at National Guard Armory on September 19.  

As part of the event, the 17-piece Stardust Big Band from Hot Springs will perform period music. The generous donation from the Knight Templar Masons covered over half of the expense of the band. The remaining cost has been paid through an Arkansas Arts Council Arts on Tour grant.

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - There will be a standing at the country courthouse in Batesville on Saturday at noon to try and restore the Batesville flag, according to Starla Conklin. 

Conklin stated that there will be speakers from Mississippi and Oklahoma. An individual from Georgia is reportedly using the event as an opportunity for footage for his documentary. Members from the League of the South will allegedly be there as well.
