UACCB nursing program meets accreditation requirement

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville’s nursing program has met full accreditation compliance for Standard 2: Faculty Degree Requirements. 

According to Marietta Candler, UACCB interim division chair of nursing and allied health, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing determined after a follow-up report the community college’s RN program had 100 percent of full-time faculty possessing a master’s degree and greater than 50 percent of part-time faculty possessing a master’s degree. ACEN accreditation is a voluntary process that is peer reviewed and enhances quality improvement in nursing education.

Special speaker to stress importance of science and technology

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Faridodin “Fredi” Lajvardi, a nationally-recognized STEM educator, will be the featured speaker at this year’s Citizens Bank Speakers’ Series at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville.  (STEM is an acronym referring to the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.)

Lajvardi’s presentation, “Spare Parts: Improbable to Unstoppable” will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 in Independence Hall on the UACCB campus.  The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and meet and greet.  The event is free and open to the public.  The Citizens Bank Speakers’ Series at UACCB was initiated last year and featured James Bradley, author of the best-selling book, “Flags of Our Fathers.” 

IMPACT announces next community meeting

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The IMPACT Independence County Planning Committee has announced that the next community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6-7 p.m. in Independence Hall on the UACCB campus.

The final results of the IMPACT survey will be revealed at the community meeting, and the planning committee will give information to those interested in serving on an IMPACT Independence County committee. Chairs and co-chairs for each committee will be nominated, and dates for future committee meetings will be determined.

The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Center for Community and Economic Development will provide a training on Thursday, Sept. 17 at UACCB in Room 104 at 6 p.m. for the selected chair and co-chairs for each IMPACT committee.

Main St. in Batesville. Dr. Wesley Kluck, Co-Chairman of the Clark County Strategic Plan, will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Water Carnival to feature Kidzone for all ages

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The 72nd Annual White River Water Carnival Kidzone will feature a new lineup of carnival entertainment that will accommodate everyone from small kids to adults.

Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) Director of Programs and Events Jamie Beck said of the 2015 Kidzone, “This year’s Kidzone is something completely different. We have a full lineup of interactive games and rides. We are so excited to offer attractions that accommodate Water Carnival visitors of all ages!”

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Batesville has successfully completed the requirements for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Prospect Readiness Education Program (PREP).

PREP offers communities hands-on training in all aspects of the economic development prospect visit. The program provides local economic development teams with the necessary training and resources to properly prepare for, execute, and follow up on prospect visits to their respective communities. To date, 14 Arkansas communities have completed the program.

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for Shaytique Boutique & Tanning on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m.

Shaytique is located at 951 Batesville Blvd.
