Campus retailer holds "fire sale"

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Scot Shop, Lyon College’s book and clothing store, has reopened three months after fire destroyed Edwards Commons, its former location. Now the shop will be holding a “fire sale” starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, in Becknell Gymnasium. The sale is open to the public.

The shop was located in the portion of Edwards Commons that was not touched by the flames. There was smoke and water damage to that end of the building, but most of the merchandise recovered from the former campus bookstore is in good condition or can be cleaned up.

Lana Fugett, manager of the Scot Shop, said the merchandise at the “fire sale” will be sold at a 60 percent discount, which is less than cost. The items include books, apparel, art supplies, insignia items and miscellaneous merchandise. The sale will last all day Wednesday or until most of the items are sold.

The sale will be located near the entrance to the fitness center in Becknell Gymnasium. The Scot Shop has reopened in a temporary mobile facility located near the former Scottish Heritage and Campus Safety building. That building is being remodeled to house a temporary dining hall until a new student center and dining facility can be built. Scottish Heritage, Campus Safety and an art studio formerly housed in the building have been relocated to temporary quarters.
