Ozark Gateway pursuing Scenic Byway Designation

The non-profit group promotes tourism in an eight county region that includes Independence, Stone, Sharp, Izard, Fulton, Jackson, Randolph, and Lawrence counties.

It launched its Heritage Tourism initiative at the beginning of the year to call attention to the natural beauty and historic assets that characterize the region; poster-size maps indicating the routes and identifying the major historic attractions along the routes are posted in every state tourist center. A smaller version of the map and information about the initiative is contained in the Ozark Gateway Tourist Guide.

Fire at Lyon College cafeteria in Batesville

According to the school's website, local restaurants Western Sizzlin', China King and Mazzios stepped up to feed students Tuesday evening in light of the fire.

Buses are leaving from Brown Chapel at 5:20 p.m. to take students to these locations for dinner.

Officials have not released a cause of the blaze.

Lyon is a liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and was founded in 1872. It has about 500 students.

Ex-president returns to Ark. to stump for Causey

 

Clinton plans to join Chad Causey, the Democratic nominee for the 1st District congressional seat, for campaign stops in Batesville and Jonesboro.

At Batesville, the two will make an appearance at 3:15 p.m. at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. At Jonesboro, Clinton and Causey will appear at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Airport.

Causey, former chief of staff for the current 1st District congressman, Marion Berry, is opposed by Republican Rick Crawford and Green Party nominee Ken Adler.

Duane Hada Watercolor Exhibit- "The River White: An Artist's View"

The Exhibit will be at the BAAC Art Gallery located at 246 E. Main Street from October 19th through November 12th.  Duane will be a guest artist at the BAAC Art Gallery on Main during the Second Friday on November 12th from 5:30- 6:30 p.m.  There will also be an artist reception from 5:30 to 6:30 and Duane will provide a watercolor demonstration/gallery talk from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
